The Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt. It encompasses the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their surrounding pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. These monuments were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, around 2600 to 2500 BC. The site also contains several cemeteries and the remains of a workers' village. Situated on the outskirts of the Western Desert, the site is about 9 kilometers west of the Nile River in the city of Giza, and roughly 13 kilometers southwest of central Cairo. Along with the nearby city of Memphis, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.

The Great Sphinx of Giza is the most famous. It was carved directly out of the bedrock during the 4th Dynasty (c.2613–2494 BC), which also makes it the oldest. Ancient Egyptian sphinxes represented the king with the body of a lion, in a clear demonstration of his power.

The Egyptian Museum is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East and boasts the largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities in the world. Its exhibits cover a vast range of periods, from the Predynastic Era to the Greco-Roman period. The building's design was chosen through an international competition held in 1895, the first of its kind, which was won by French architect Marcel Dourgnon. The museum officially opened in 1902, with the inauguration ceremony conducted by Khedive Abbas Helmy II. Over time, it has become a historic landmark in downtown Cairo, housing some of the world's most remarkable ancient treasures.
