What makes Private Jewish Tour – Synagogues, Museums in São Paulo (5h) a unique experience ?

Higienópolis is one of São Paulo’s most iconic neighborhoods, known for its strong connection with the Jewish community. Since the mid-20th century, it has become one of the main centers of Jewish life in the city, housing a rich variety of synagogues, cultural institutions and kosher establishments. The neighborhood stands out for its elegant architecture, wooded streets and welcoming atmosphere. With a diverse population, Higienopolis is home to many Jewish families who have contributed significantly to the cultural and social development of the region. In addition to the synagogues, the neighborhood has Hebrew schools, bakeries and restaurants that follow Jewish culinary traditions, providing an authentic experience for locals and visitors. This combination of history, culture and tradition makes Higienópolis a special place for those who want to know more about the Jewish heritage in São Paulo.

The São Paulo Holocaust Memorial is a space of memory and reflection dedicated to preserving the history and lessons of the Holocaust. Inaugurated in November 2017, it is located on the top floor of the Jewish Immigration Memorial, in the old synagogue of Bom Retiro, one of the most traditional neighborhoods of the Jewish community of Paulistan. The memorial presents an interactive and audiovisual collection that includes photographs, videos, objects of the time and artistic facilities. These elements narrate, in a sensitive and educational way, the horrors experienced by millions of Jews during World War II, promoting awareness of the dangers of antisemitism and intolerance. The visit is free, subject to prior scheduling, and offers an impactful experience that invites empathy, respect and appreciation of human rights.

The Jewish Museum of São Paulo (MUJ) is an institution dedicated to preserving and disseminating Jewish history, culture and traditions in Brazil, promoting dialogue with the contemporary Brazilian context. The museum occupies the building of the historic Beth-El Synagogue, built between 1927 and 1932 in Byzantine style, with seven sides symbolizing the seven days of creation and the seven arms of the menorah. The MUJ collection consists of approximately 2,000 items, including objects, documents, photographs and oral accounts that tell the trajectory of the Jewish community in Brazil, from the arrival of the first immigrants to the present day. The museum also offers interactive and educational exhibitions that address topics such as Jewish immigration, the Holocaust and the contribution of Jews to Brazilian society. In addition, it has a specialized library, shop, cafe and spaces for events and cultural activities.

During the Jewish tour of St. Paul, the traveler will have the opportunity to meet some of the city’s historic and representative synagogues. We will visit some of these temples on the outside, observing their architectural facades and learning a bit about their history and importance for the community. In addition, depending on the availability on the day of the tour, it will be possible to visit the interior of a synagogue in operation, experiencing more closely the spiritual and cultural atmosphere of the place. The internal visit is subject to prior authorization and the schedule of religious activities. This experience provides an authentic contact with the Jewish heritage in São Paulo.
