Dublin GPO Museum 1916 Uprising & Moore St. Battlefield Site Tour

# Experienced and licensed tour guide. A private group tour. On Easter Monday of 1916, armed groups of the Irish Volunteers and the Citizen Army, commanded by Padraig Pearse and James Connolly, took over the GPO where they proclaimed the Irish Republic. The rebels held out for a week in the GPO before surrendering to the British forces. The final twenty-four hours of the rising would be played out in small streets around Moore Street and then their eventual surrender and capture and march to the gardens of the Rotunda Hospital.

The beginning of the end of the Dublin GPO Garrison as they make a break for Moore Street under sniper and shell fire, the British Army are closing the net, the patriots try to break out.

Arrive at Moore Lane where the 'Army of the Republic' are now gathering .....they come under heavy machine gun and sniper fire again, chaos ensues....

The 'Army of the Republic' are trapped they decide to enter the side entrance of 10 Moore Street.

What happens in Moore Street those coming hours.... The eventual surrender at the top of Moore Street and that famous photo, the real story.

The Army of the Republic reluctantly surrenders and march up O'Connell Street fully armed and lay down their weapons. They are herded into the Rotunda Hosptal gardens for the next 24 hours. What happens next and the story of Tom Clarke and Mick Collins.
